While the roots of the operation began in Pratt, the vision quickly grew beyond a single yard. Under the leadership of Jerry Bohn, Pratt Feeders expanded into what is now known as the Pratt Feeders Group, a multi-location organization built on performance, partnership, and progress. After serving as Director of Market Analysis at CattleFax, Jerry took over management of Pratt Feeders in 1982. From day one, he pushed for a system that could scale without sacrificing quality.
Over the next four decades, that system grew into a powerful network:
1989
Acquired Ashland Feeders in Ashland, Kansas
1995
Added Buffalo Feeders in Buffalo, Oklahoma
2022
Welcomed Ford County Feeders in Ford, Kansas
But growth has never just been about scale. From early on, the Pratt Feeders Group took an active role in shaping the industry. It was one of the first feeding organizations to participate in the Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program and the Beef Checkoff, long before either became standard. That early commitment to animal care and food safety reflects a deeper value system focused on trust and transparency from pasture to plate.
The group was also an original investor in U.S. Premium Beef (USPB), helping lay the groundwork for grid-based marketing and packer alignment. This move gave customers a way to earn more for higher quality cattle, while supporting the group’s ongoing mission to reward performance with real premiums.
Jerry’s influence extended far beyond the feedyard. In 2021, he served as President of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), where he worked to elevate producer voices, strengthen beef demand, and advocate for a more unified cattle industry.
